'I have found that themes work well for students' recitals, making them more memorable and providing a focal point for specific occasions. I use folk and popular music as well as classical pieces that students might enjoy. The pieces are suitable for players of varying ability and pose different challenges, such as rhythmic patterns or a wide range of pitches or dynamics, finger dexterity or breath control.

I always make the audience sing along with a few songs at recitals, so go to the internet and find the lyrics to your favourites. I hope you have as much fun with this book as we have had.'
