A collection of Chinese pieces for flute and piccolo.
All of the solos in this collection are traditional pieces from the repertoire for the Chinese Dizi, or the Chinese Transverse Bamboo Flute. A wide variety of pieces have been chosen to represent the Northern and Southern styles of composition. The Northern styles are typically fast, virtuosic, and tend to represent shepherding, horses, and birds. The Southern styles are typically slow, lyrical, and tend to represent homesickness and landscapes. Each style is laden with their own specific ornamentation.
