Musicians Publications presents Renaissance Motets and Madrigals, Vol. 1 arranged for woodwind quintet by Bill Holcombe Jr.
Arranger Bill Holcombe Jr. has taken popular songs from the Renaissance and arranged them for flute, oboe, clarinet, horn, and bassoon. These songs include: My Bonny Lass and Now Is the Month of Maying by Thomas Morley (1557-1603), Ave Maria by William Byrd (1543-1632), and Hark, All Ye Lovely Saints Above by Thomas Weekles (1557-1623). Due to the progress in polyphony that was occurring during the Renaissance, this collection is easy in difficulty and provides a taste of older times to listeners and performers especially using this chamber group instrumentation which would have been appropriate of the times as well.
