Galway writes about this collection, "In compiling this book of "Showpieces," I have written only generally about each piece. I have simply tried to give a little insight into the way in which I approach each piece so that the student may have some sort of ground from which to begin his studies. Generally speaking, try to play the legato melodies like a singer - that is, control the tone by taking care not to over-accent but try to let the music float through the air. Try to make practising the flute as much fun as playing it."
