Various :: The American Flute
These short pieces for solo flute were composed by six talented American composers who are creating their own wonderful music after having diligently studied musical theory and composition for many years. these composers are all from the same generation, born at mid-century (coincidentally three in 1949, three in 1951). As a group, they represent a wide spectrum of America's heritage. Their respective birth cities span the continent, and today they work from coast to coast.
Collectively, this music (published here for the first time) incorporates many aspects of 20th century music, including jazz rhythms, multiphonics, key clicks, and flutter-tonguing. Above all, these pieces have a strong lyrical impulse, which presents the flute in its most appealing aspect.
