Shostakovich, D :: Vier Walzer [Four Waltzes]
Shostakovich, in addition to being a master composer for orchestra, wrote novelty music, movie music, ballet music, and salon music. This collection of four waltzes are from four separate ballets and films that he scored for. Arranged by Levon Atovmian, Vier Walzer features the flute and piccolo, clarinet, and piano in varying combinations. Each waltz is characteristic of Shostakovich’s writing, featuring his unique harmonic writing and each carrying their own unique take on the waltz form.
