Anthony Scott Watson presents Legend for flute, cello, and piano.
From the composer:
'Legend is a one movement work based on two seminal ideas. The first, heard in the opening flute solo, is free and improvisational with slowly evolving harmonic material; pan pipes are evoked. The other is a motivic, four-chord succession with a more regular rhythm. Embedded in this succession is a phrygian cadence, which becomes a prominent part of the piece. Legend weaves artifacts of musical tradition, which conjure music of the distant part, into its romantic, twentieth-century idiom.'
