Suite florentine (1919)

Widor, CM

The Suite florentine, written by Charles-Marie Widor in 1919, is an arrangement of the Suite Op. 76, which in turn was compiled from the incidental music for La Sulamite.

The suite highlights Widor's great talent for adopting the harmonic languages of various stylistic periods while inserting his own, somewhat eclectic harmony. Johann Sebastian Bach is of clear influence, though the flowing melodic lines speak of Romantic touches as well.

Emmanuel Pahud's presentation of this piece is a great compliment to Widor's famous Suite for flute and piano. For the advanced flutist.
