Yamaha went back to a clean slate, applying all of the knowledge, advancements, and skills they have obtained over the last two decades, to craft some of the finer handmade flutes available today. Focusing on innovation, they have created instruments that change the image of the Yamaha handmade flute significantly. The Yamaha handmades offer tone with charm and depth. Highly responsive with a wide dynamic range that spans from rich, sensitive pianissimo to highly resonant fortissimo, they allow the flutist to discover new limits of musical expression.

The new Yamaha Type A headjoint enables the flutist to produce an easy yet colorful sound and still play using a wide dynamic range. The newly designed lip plate promotes efficient playing technique and provides optimal resistance when paired with the new Handmade flute body. The Type A headjoint provides a high degree of freedom for musical expression, and has been praised by many players for its rich and clear sound, which is distinctive even at pianissimo.

The Yamaha 900 flutes create a deep, mature, full tone imbedded with rich, warm colors from the gold, making it an excellent choice for an orchestral, chamber, and soloist setting. Just like the 800, the 900 features the new Type-A head joint that helps the professional flutist reach a new level of musical expression. The gold Type A head joint is available in different wall thickness (9K: 0.35mm – 0.43mm, 14K: 0.3mm – 0.43mm, 18K: 0.3mm – 0.35mm) that improves resonance, giving the flutist options to help maximize their sound with a variety of colors.  The 900 has improved its mechanism with a pinless left-hand key system, resulting in easier/smoother movement for high F-F# key.

The Yamaha 14k Rose Gold flute model YFL-977AHCT has a 14k Rose Gold headjoint and body with Sterling silver mechanism, a C# trill key, split E mechanism, French-style keys, off-set G, and a B footjoint with Gizmo.
