Man-Ching Donald Yu presents Spring Flower for woodwind trio - flute, clarinet in Bb, and bassoon.
The title is inspired by the modern Chinese painting 'Spring Flower'. The piece begins with a three-note motive presented by the clarinet while the flute and bassoon enter later in an imitative manner. The motive gradually unfolds throughout each instrument, building up to the first climax and reflecting the blossoming of flowers in the painting. The second, later climax mirrors the first in a higher register and with more power. The end of the piece fades out mysteriously, representing the profound color effects in the painting.
