Joji Yuasa s Mai-Bataraki II, for solo alto flute, is a transcription by the composer himself from his piece of the same name written for the Japanese Nohkan flute. A tone poem - Mai bataraki is a form of movement, accompanied by music, and performed by deities, dragon gods, or goblins in Japanese Noh plays - the piece utilizes traditional Japanese musical elements blended with Boulezian serialism.
