Hasse, JA
Johann Adolph Hasse presents the Triosonate D-Dur (Trio Sonata in D Major), for two flutes (or violins), bassoon (or cello), and piano (or basso continuo).
Hasse is chiefly remembered as a representative of the Neapolitan opera school - though this trio should serve to show that his instrumental music is also significant and deserves to be heard today. The depth of felling and the elegance of the writing, the melodic richness of the slow passages, the fluency of the melody and the concentration of the workout-out to the point of canon and fugato show Hasse to have been a fine composer, who has long been unjustly reckoned among the representatives of a superficial virtuoso style.
