Italian Concerto in F major, op. 82, no. 6

Demersseman, J

International Music Company presents Jules Demersseman's Italian Concerto in F Major, op. 82, no. 6 for flute and piano, edited by Ransom Wilson.

'Jules Demersseman was born January 9th, 1833 in Hondschoote, France. He studied flute at the Conservatoire de Paris with Louis Tulou where he won first prise at the age of twelve. Demersseman wrote several pieces on flute; however, his most famous work was his Sixth Solo de Concert, Op. 82. This piece was written in the Romantic era and was believed to be composed in 1884. It was commonly known as the 'Italian Concerto.' Composed in F Major, It used a Neapolitan folk melody in the middle movement and has a saltarello as the grand finale. He was not like the transverse flute created by Boehm which is why the Conservatoire never considered employing him as a professor. Demersseman died December 1, 1866 of what is believed to be tuberculosis.'
