Charles Gounod is today primarily known for his wind and ballet writing he was also a fine chamber-work and concerto-composer, with a delicate touch and notably engaging melodic material, idiomatic to each instrument. The Concertino for flute and orchestra, here presented in a reduction for flute and piano, is a prime example of Gounod's careful crafting of line and presentation of the flute almost as a ballet.
